Monday a.m. Update

********************************************************

Today is Garbage Day
61 degrees and overcast at 6:30 a.m.

The morning Forecast from TWCNY:

"Occasional Shower/Storm w/Warm and Muggy Conditions,
A Warm & Unsettled Stretch Ahead

We have occasional showers and storms possible today with plenty of breaks of dry time. It will be warm and more humid with clouds and sun. Highs will be in the 80s.

It remains warm for both Wednesday and Thursday (highs in the low and mid 80s) despite having to deal with a few scattered showers and storms. This activity should become more isolated in nature by Friday and there will be a surge of slightly warmer air out ahead of a cold front as temperatures climb into the upper 80s to finish off the week.

Looks like bigger changes for the end of the 7 day with a cooler air mass to settle in over the weekend."

*****************************

I was not in town on Monday, but on Sunday afternoon
the Village was all ready for Memorial Day.

Both parks had been mown .......

................. the Fire Engines were being polished ........

................  and American Flags were on display at businesses and homes throughout the community.

Anyone driving through the East part of Waterville will have smiled when they saw the newly-smooth surface on both Upper and Lower White Street and Barton Avenue.........

.....  and wondered to themselves: "Now where did I put my roller skates?"

There's a new banner on display in front of the Fire Department ...

.... and a familiar-looking bulletin board, somewhat the worse for wear, has appeared at the entrance to the Town Barn on Route 315 in Deansboro.

*********

A week ago, on May 17th,   just about across the road from the Bulletin Board, a new Historical Marker was dedicated at the old Deansville Depot.

Yvonne Durant Brady and Dot McConnell, representing the Marshall Historical Society,  joined Brothertown Association president Dave Sullivan for the unveiling.

This is the sixth historical Marker to be set in place by the Marshall Historical Society in recent years.

I think that if flowers could shout for joy when they bloomed,
the noise they would have made this past week would have been deafening!

Red Bud and Apple Blossoms.

Wood Betony and "Cookoo Flower" found on the banks of the Oriskany Creek.

Look for "Ragged Robin" and Yellow Flag in soggy meadows and watery ditches.

In dark corners of Nine Mile Swamp, the Wild Crane's Bill and Yellow Lady Slippers bloom.

Here and there in the Swamp and in many parts of the Adirondacks hikers and campers often find Moccasin Flower.

In gardens, Tree Peonies and Solomon's Seal  .....

............. are right on schedule!

And now the hunt is on .....

....   and  'shroomers set out to search for the Great Morel!

(If you think that you've found morels, do NOT just take them home and eat them!  There is a "false" morel that is not at all good for you, so play it safe and take them to a mycologist at one of the colleges for 100%-sure identification!)
