Wednesday afternoon

*******************************

It's 87 degrees here in "the hollow"
 at 4:45 Wednesday afternoon.

The Forecast from TWCNY:

"Hot & Humid, Bright and Mainly Dry.

Today will be mostly sunny, hot and humid with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s.
Late tonight into Thursday a weak cold front will swing through with a few scattered showers and thunderstorms possible, but other than that the rest of the week ahead will be mainly dry! Temperatures will cool back into the upper 70s/near 80 degrees to end the week."

TRIVIA

"Dog Days" is the name for the most sultry period of summer, from about July 3 to Aug. 11. Named in early times by observers in countries bordering the Mediterranean, the period was reckoned as extending from 20 days before to 20 days after the conjunction of Sirius (the dog star) and the sun. Cathy Rousell, of Cazenovia, took this picture of John Brouillette standing in a field of Malting Barley in Hanover, yesterday.
On Facebook, John wrote:

" 'Branding'" my malting barley in hopes that it will be harvested  in the next 7 to 10 days to find its way to the malt house for 'local' grain for the fine brews at Bandwagon Brew Pub and Empire Brewery. So cool to be able to source this right from up on Hanover."

I drove through Hanover on Fuess-Cleary Road, this afternoon, and think that this might be the same field.

Grain was being harvested up near Paris Green, too.

Once upon a time, I imagine that farmers in Hanover had to use scythes to harvest wheat, until ......

- and they exclaimed, "Will wonders never cease?"
