Thurs Update with Corrections & Additions

It's 47 degrees and cloudy at 7:00 a.m.

The Weather Forecast from TWCNY:

"Breezy & Chilly, But Quiet Through Friday
Today will be brisk and cool with intervals of sun, with more sun for northwestern sections of CNY.  Highs will be around 60.  Quiet weather continues tonight into Friday with a partly cloudy sky tonight and intervals of sun fading away to end Friday.  Lows tonight will be in the mid 30s to low 40s, and highs will be in the mid to perhaps upper 50s to end the week.

Clouds increasing to end Friday into Friday night will ironically be the result of the strong high to the north up across Southeastern Canada that will produce a stiff, raw easterly flow in the low to mid levels of the atmosphere ushering in more and more clouds and possibly even a few showers Saturday and Saturday night.  It will likely be quite chilly Saturday too with highs probably struggling to make the low 50s!  Sunday should be dry, breezy and more seasonable with highs possibly making the low 60s.

What about Joaquin??  Well, the latest data is now suggesting a more easterly track.  The two forecast models we most rely on for longer range forecasting are still not agreeing, but are closer than they were this time yesterday.  One solution is forecasting the storm to push into NYC Monday with some limited rain and wind possible from it here too, while another set of data that has been more consistent lately and seemingly has a better handle on this storm, is still suggesting that the storm will just affect the fish mainly.  Stay tuned to your Weather On The 1s Forecast and right here for the latest updates regarding the track of Joaquin and it's impacts, if any, on us.  "

As you can gather from yesterday's weather alert, above, it's been raining, and we don't need any more right away!

There may be a "plus-side" to the drenching, however, and
" 'shroomers" will be on the lookout for these Autumn treasures!

"Pasture Mushrooms."

Here's one that I found two years ago right next to Madison Street.

At first, I didn't realize how large it really was — just a hair under 8 inches across or four times normal size — and it was fully four times as delicious, too!
I've been picking these since I was a child so am quite sure I know what I'm looking at when I see it, but if you're not sure...

IN THE MAIL: Something New.

A letter to the residents of the Waterville area
from Alli Dolan, Intern, Waterville First:

" Natural food grocery stores have become popular in Central New York. These stores are well suited for small towns. Since they are small, locally owned, and conveniently located near the customers. They offer higher quality often local products that are hard to find in other stores. Similar to a farmers market with longer and more convenient hours open year round.
Waterville would be an ideal location for a natural grocery store that would offer the convenience of a local grocery with the delicious local bounty of the surrounding area.
I have been researching natural grocery stores in central NY and other business fundamentals in order to create a plan for a store to be established in Waterville as an intern for Waterville First.  By the end of the year I will create a plan for the store to potentially move forward with and will have completed all necessary criteria to complete my bachelor’s degree in agricultural business. I have grown up in Litchfield, my husband and I just bought a home there to raise our daughter. So I understand the dynamics of my community, but I do not know the Waterville community as well as its members do so I am asking for your assistance in making an effective plan.

Monday a.m. with misc. pix

It's 70 degrees, clear and sunny at 4:00 p.m.

At 10:30 p.m. it was still clear. The sky was black, stars were twinkling, and the moon really was orangy-red
and much more vivid than this iPhone shot taken from my front porch at 10:35!

This superb image is compliments of Don Yacco and Jim Dulak, members of the Mohawk Valley Astronomical Society, and was taken at the Barton-Brown Observatory in Waterville at 11:05.

AMAZING!

******************************
Ordinarily, this would be the Full "Harvest" Moon,
but not tonight!

"This will be the first time since 1982 we have had a supermoon eclipse. The next will be in 2033. 1) Supermoon: The moon will be at its closest point in its orbit around the Earth, making it appear 14% larger and 33% brighter (super moon).

2) Blood Moon: During the eclipse the moon will not be completely dark but rather have a reddish appearance.

3) The best chances for viewing (cloud wise) will be over New England. Chances decrease (due to clouds) farther south over the Mid Atlantic and west toward Western NY/Great Lakes. This places our area in the middle with better viewing chances from near Syracuse/Binghamton/Scranton east, but everyone has a decent shot to see this."  National Weather Service, Binghamton.

The Weather Forecast from TWCNY:

"Clouds Increase Overnight, Turning More Unsettled Early in the Week.
Look for clouds to increase across CNY overnight and it will be cool and comfortable with lows ranging from the middle/upper 50s to near 60 degrees. We'll see clouds and some sun on Monday with highs generally in the upper 60s and low 70s. While there will be the opportunity for a couple of showers, the day won't be a washout and some of us could escape the day precipitation free.
Rain and thunder will be more likely and widespread on Tuesday as a cold front pushes in from the northwest. Out ahead of this front, temperatures will manage to top out in the low 70s. A drier, cooler air mass is expected to settle in for the second half of the week with highs near 60 on Wednesday and then closer to the mid 60s Thursday and Friday."
