It's Garbage Day, again.
At 5:30 a.m. the temperature is 35.8 degrees and there is no precipitation.

The TWCNY Weather Forecast:

"Unsettled Through Friday, Getting Warmer Through the Weekend.

With the same stalled front close by we are keeping scattered showers in the forecast. Temperatures should improve a bit on Thursday with highs in the 40s to near 50 degrees. Friday looks milder, but still unsettled as scattered showers remain in the forecast.  Highs on Friday will be in the 50s and 60s.
A cold front will usher in a cooler air mass Saturday with highs in the 40s to near 50 degrees. Sunday looks like the nicer of the two weekend days with temperatures topping out near 60 under a mostly sunny sky. "

It's been gray and rainy for the past few days ......

............ perfect weather for the DPW street sweeper to continue Spring cleaning.

Within a day after the new "260 Stuctural Engineering" sign appeared in the window, a super-size dumpster arrived on the street outside the building. I couldn't tell, however,  if  it indicated that work had begun inside Mr. Meszler's future office or on the second floor of the building next door.

There is definitely something good happening on Berrill Avenue where a dumpster sits outside one of the very few truly dilapidated homes in the Village and Hutchings Tree Service was removing an old tree.

SPECIAL REQUESTS
for Historical, Geneological Help!

From: Ian Dana Camp:

Any Photos, Memorabilia, or written accounts
of the Waterville  "I.O.O.F."
(Independent Order of Odd Fellows)

"A am currently putting together a book on the History of Odd Fellowship in Oneida County with a focus on the Waterville, Oriskany Falls, and Deansboro (Deansville) areas. But my main focus is on the Village of Waterville. What I'm hoping to find is any photographs of the building the Odd Fellows would have occupied or any known group photos of the Organization that I can use in my book. The building stood where the parking lot of the Laundromat and Chinese restaurant now lays. The Odd Fellows owned this building from between 1924 until 1970 so I'm looking for photographs from between those years. It's a part of the the village that didn't seem to get to much photo action so even if its a shot where the building is just in the background would be wonderful.

Honestly Im really trying to find anything pertaining to Waterville Lodge #74 wether it be Stationary, Ribbons, Dishes, Props for the Rituals, Ledgers, Press Seals... etc. Anything like this would be a wonderful addition to the book. The building that housed the lodge rooms was struck by lighting in the 1950's and burned almost all of the Regalia and property so much of Waterville Lodge's history is either gone or impossible to find. And thats the main reason for compiling this all together before its completely forgotten."

I relayed Ian's request to Doris Stephan, Archivist for the Waterville Historical Society, and she immediately located this 1955 photograph and accompanying article!

Thank you, Doris!

(Please send additional information to the Blogger and I will forward it to both Ian and the Historical Society.)

From: John Idris Jones, Ruthin, North Wales.

Seeking any descendants of John and Catherine Lewis,
members of the Welsh community,
who had a farm on Tassell Hill in the mid-to late-19th century.
Their son, also John Lewis, is listed as living in Waterville and married to an Annie Russell.

(If you wonder about the double "L" in Tassell, it's because the hill was named for a very early settler - a Dutchman whose last name was VanTassell.)
