Another "April Fool's" Joke?

I don't think so!

I flicked on television, this morning, just in time to hear Time-Warner meteorologist, Vanessa Richards, announce:
"We'll see today's temperature soar through the fifties, today, with some of us landing in the sixties!"

At 6:30 it's already 32 degrees!

"Mild and Breezy, Showers Return Tonight.

We have a nice day ahead with early clouds, few showers or sprinkles, and a little chilly. By the mid morning hours, we are dry with increasing sun as well as warming temperatures. It will be one of the warmest days we have had in months so get out and enjoy.
Showers return tonight and temps stay mild in the 40s. Continued showers and clouds for Friday and highs still manage to stay in the 50s.
The weekend ahead looks much different. The mild air will exit and chilly 30s with snow showers return!"

In addition to yesterday's designation as "April Fool's Day
April 1 is also the first day of Fishing Season.  It was, however, on the "chilly" side and the few anglers that I saw throughout the morning did not look as if they were having fun.

These next three "fishermen," however, were all standing in the same short stretch of Oriskany Creek just downstream from the old dam at Lyon's Mills:

Above the dam, Canada Geese were enjoying the sunshine.

Looking for a different sort of lunch ...
a Barred Owl, perched near a bird feeder at Rusty and Joan Frederick's house. (Thanks, Rusty!)

Here are some additional Tributes that have been posted recently on Facebook:

From Matt Patterson:

"To the 2014-2015 Waterville Boys Basketball Team: Players, Coaches, Tyson too:
You are just another reason why I love this Town. What you you have been able to accomplish from all your HARD WORK on and off the court _BE PROUD. You have shown this community PRIDE & JOY to come together as ONE FAMILY. The way you
interact with the young kids of WCS will always be etched in their young minds as ROLE MODELS. As a parent I could not be any prouder to hear - Kane, Cooper and their friends call themselves as KANE- "I am Sawyer", COOPER - " I am English" ......"I am Hunter (Williams), (Noah)Barnes, Murph, Nick(Salm), Will(Specht), (Brandon)English, (Josh)Williams, Spooner, Timian, Deetz, &JT(Machold) " as they play in our driveway. You all should be proud of yourselves and remember this for a lifetime. I also want to say that Coach Maxam and his ass't coaches are the best coaches that any player, parent, or community member should be proud to have as part of their FAMILY. They have taught these boys and the community to be ONE TEAM, show PRIDE, walk TALL, work HARD, & and whatever the outcome may be, you can feel in your heart, that you are CHAMPIONS!!!"

From Brian Staring:

"I would like to congratulate “Our” Waterville Boys Varsity Basketball Team as “OUR” Champions. Champions are not made in a gym, there made by something deep inside of them, a desire, a dream, a vision. You as a team, brothers, friends have done it all. Great role models for the younger students in our school. In the hearts of everyone in the Waterville Community, You are our Champions in our hearts! You as a team have done something no other Waterville boys basketball team has ever done. Twenty-five and one. Best record in Waterville school history. The first boy’s varsity basketball team in Waterville Central School history to play in the New York State Finals State Championship game. You have
set a school record for three pointers in a game and now hold the record for most three pointers in a season. You hold the record for the best basketball season at Waterville Central School. State ranked Number One in Class C foralmost the whole season. I have enjoyed photographing every game this season. Ateam practicing sportsmanship is better than hundreds of people preaching it. A
basketball team doesn’t build character, it reveals character. I hope all of you have enjoyed my pictures as much as I have enjoyed taking them. All my photos have showed me your friendship and brotherhood among each other. You as a team have left us all with memories that will last forever. I hope all of you have downloaded and save many of my pictures so when you get older, you can show them to your children and grandchildren. Also, your inspiration has shown the other students in our Waterville Central School that if they work hard, anything is possible to exceed in sports and in life. Again, congratulations. Waterville’s Own Champions!"

Do you recognize this young fisherman?
(He would look a bit different, now, because I took this picture some time in the early 1970s - possibly not on April 1 but at a summertime fishing derby.)
